Those it's said may cry too hard, or laugh too loud.... that dare to care, so much! Each an integral component, of a
lineage of place holders: unbridled children and wizened elders, willful wilders, wiccans and wizards on whose
souls rest the responsibility to invoke a new/old Earth, an Earth once again green and growing, dynamic and
diverse, feral and free. Our shared ministry is this most insistent calling. And our liturgy.... is our love.

What is the Wisteria Tradition?
The best-known of neo-Pagan religions is Wicce (pronounced Wit-cha) also known as
Witchcraft, an explicitly nature-focused faith tradition which sees all the gods and
goddesses of all the cultures as aspects of one God and one Goddess, who are Themselves
ultimately the masculine and feminine aspects of one primal divinity which is immanent
within the living world, not separate from it.
We work closely with the Elements of nature, attuning our selves to the Earth and what is
the power of creation. From that power we gain our energy to be the hands, hearts and
minds of the Gods, and to do Their work. We are co-creators with the Gods and we must
stay in connection with Them to do what we are meant for. This means we are a
Devotionary more then a Magickal path. Though magick is a tool that we use, we above all
are the devotees to the Gods.
We celebrate the life cycle of the Gods in the representation of the solar movement in the
Eight Sabbats. These are the special celebrations where we attune ourselves to the Earth
and the energies of the Earth.
We celebrate the Esbats, the 13 Full Moons and 13 New Moons, that honor the Goddess and
Her powers of Birth, Change and Magick. This is a time to play, dance, sing and do any
magick that is needed.
Our aim is to honor the Gods and help create an environment of inclusion and equality for
Wiccans (Wit-chen). We feel that knowledge brings understanding...and understanding
brings tolerance. Wisteria is a Teaching Tradition, for without Knowledge there can be no
personal growth. As Witches, we are caretakers of the Earth, and all She holds. Each
person finds, in his or her own spirit, how best to care for our Earth. Cleaning a roadway is
as important as meditating. Keeping track of the law is as important as lighting a candle.
Actions without care for the spirit are as dead as the spiritual without works for the spirit is
empty.
The Wisteria Tradition honors the Principles set down by the American Witches Council in
1974, The Modernized Ordains, The Rede, Three-Fold Law, The Charges of the Goddess and
God, and those laws particular to the Wisteria Tradition. Our way of following the Wiccen
religion is lived, felt and experienced rather than simply believed. It is real, ecstatic and
visceral.
The Wisteria Tradition is at the core of the Wisteria Temple as well as any Covens and
groups that come from The Temple. The Wisteria Temple is the Mother Temple of the
Tradition. From it there are, and will be, hived other Covens and Teaching Circles.
We know that there has been a long line of men and women honoring the Gods. It started
in the mists of time when life and death were seen as magick and part of the mysteries of
the spirit. We honor all Gods and ways of devotion, as long as they are life affirming,
tolerant and follow the Wiccen (Wit-chen) Path. This tradition is one in which We come
together as friends on a path where the Gods are more important than personalities.
Wisteria members are family, each supporting the other for the good of all, even if miles
away. Reverence for the Gods, the Earth and each other bind us close in love and trust
within our Coven and, ultimately, with all in the Wisteria Tradition. To build that love and
to know that trust requires personal effort.
There is a standard of commitment expected from those who apply to be a part of our
tradition and Temple. For this is a way of life, of learning about self and of expanding
horizons. Within the Wisteria Tradition there is a three-degree hierarchy, which is open to,
but not required of, members to participate in. Upon entering the first step is Dedicant; you
work to dedicate yourself to the Gods and study. Some may wish to reach this level and go
no further, this is perfectly fine as not all are called to clergy and leadership. If you wish to
become clergy you then become a Neophyte, beginning studies to achieve the First degree
and all that entails. It could then take you many years to achieve the second degree. With
that degree you may then initiate others, teach those who are of a lesser degree, and lead
your own group...under the eye of a Third Degree. Once you have been acknowledged a
Third Degree Priest or Priestess you may Hive off, becoming an independent leader of the
Wisteria Tradition; teaching, counseling, leading and preparing others to continue the work.
We recognize that we are not a direct line to the ancient's knowledge. No one can have that
knowledge because too much was destroyed, and too many millennia have passed. We can
study the history and the writings of the teachers and philosophers of the past. Artifacts
have been found that give us information to help us fill in the empty spaces. We take that
knowledge, combined with thought, meditation and reason to form Wisteria. It is not a copy
of an ancient religion but something modern Pagans can follow, love and choose to live.
This is the Wisteria; the roots go deep into the past. Yet no matter how thick the roots
grow, how entwined the vines are into the trees, how deep the snow lies, or how cold the
winds blow, in the spring the buds of Wisteria open into blossoms that bind us with their
beauty and wonder once again.
